Do you want to figure out what to do with your time in Jakarta? Here are some ideas for things to do in Jakarta.
- Visit the National Monument (MONAS)
Monas is Indonesia’s National Monument. The monument is in the Middle of Independence Square opposite the Presidential Palace. The monument was started in 1975. There’s a small exhibition as you input, but the highlight is the view from the crest of the monument. Right during the ’80s, Monas was the tallest structure in Jakarta, although this is no longer the case.
- Visit Taman Mini Indonesia Indah
TMI was the project of the wife of Soeharto, the second President of Indonesia. Translated as Beautiful Mini Indonesia, the park was created as a way of celebrating the diversity of Indonesia (in miniature). The complex is situated at the outskirts of town and is somewhat challenging to get at. If you’re only passing throughout the city, it’s worth a visit.
- Go to the mall: Plaza Indonesia
There’s not a large number of people space in Jakarta. However, there are so many malls. A couple of the best are Plaza Indonesia and Grand Indonesia. The Islands are right next to Bundaran HI and are two of the very luxurious within the city. If you’ve never seen a mega-mall before it’s well worth a visit. You will catch a movie, eat at one of the international restaurants and do a little window-shopping (or actual shopping).
- Join the Car Free Day
Each Sunday morning from 6 am to 12 am the major Sudirman, and Thamrin roads are closed to visitors. The streets get filled with groups of individuals walking and biking. In case you ha have the opportunity it’s well worth joining in. There’s a delightful and subtropical setting. Bear in mind that this makes moving around the town a real annoyance.
Where’s it: Sudirman and Thamrin
- Check the Jakarta’s Flea Market
Jalan Surabaya is a famous tourism road in Jakarta. The tiny shops that line the road market antique furnishings, imitation antique furnishings, and basic bric-a-brac. There are numerous beautiful cafes and restaurants on the other side of the road. Jalan Surabaya has been going up the market in the latest years. I saw a dentist operation last time I was here. It’s an intriguing place for a quick stroll and one of the pleasant things to do in Jakarta.
